"Between Us"

(Caled/Hadrian)

Is anger the only emotion that ties Caled and Hadrian? Hadrian thought he knew. He's beginning to think he might be wrong.

Hadrian didn't think. He grabbed the mercenary and flung himself against the solid strength of the other man's chest. He buried his wet face against the taut curve of Caled's throat and he hung on as though Caled were the only thing keeping him from sinking.

Someone sobbed, "Taker of Life! Taker of Life." To his horror, he realized it was himself and he bit down on his tongue to stop himself.

A large hand cupped the back of his head. A muscled arm wrapped around his back. Hadrian inhaled the scent of murder and revenge that would always be Caled and he knew that he would love the mercenary until the day he died.

"Christmas in Three Easy Installments"

(Calyx/Black, Bee/Haney)

Calyx has an addiction. An addiction to the home shopping channel, that is. When Christmas arrives, will he get the gifts he's been watching for?

"Sorry to break it to you, sweetheart, but leaving me high and dry in the gift department doesn't make me jump for joy."

"I know that," Black said, sounding defensive. His cheeks darkened, but in the dim lighting, Calyx couldn't tell for certain. "I was going to give you something else."

The mumble sounded embarrassed. Calyx leaned forward, curious beyond anger. "And what was that?"

"I was going to give you a kiss," he said defiantly. "Or myself. Or -- or whatever it is you wanted from me that you can't buy with cash."

Calyx heard himself breathing. He felt the blood pulsing in his temple. He said, "And what if I wanted all of the above?" He took a step into the doorway. "A kiss *and* you. Can I have both?"

Black's eyes widened for a second, before dark lashes swept down. "Yes," he said in a suddenly husky voice, and pushed the empath into the hall.

"The Delivery Boy"

(John/Finn)

Finn shows up with pizza. He's not leaving until he's had dessert.

Finn had difficulty deciding which he wanted more: to be in control of this, or to let John have his way. His mind told him that since he was the one with the most experience in this sort of thing, he should take over and make sure this reached its proper conclusion. His body was telling him that John seemed to have figured things out well enough on his own.

"We're gonna do this, aren't we?" John rasped against Finn's ear. The hot wash of his voice made Finn tremble.

"You know we are," Finn told him.

"Six Wishes"

(Caled/Hadrian, Lio/Hadrian)

Hadrian has a few dreams of how he wished his life would be.

It would end at the Sea, as Hadrian had always suspected it would. It was where his life had begun and where he should die.

Gavedon waited for him at the edge, a glowing form of white atop of the Greying Cliffs. Shard's Point Isle lurked in the water behind him, ready to devour the body of the one who fell here.

"You know that I've come for you," Hadrian said quietly, needlessly.

Fate seemed to understand the importance of this confrontation for the normally fierce winds off the Fetching Sea were gentler now, carrying their words to each other instead of dashing them away. "This must end now, Father."

"Invincible"

(Calyx/Black)

Calyx makes a claim of possession in front of Lt. Sundhill. Black is surprised when Calyx tells him why he did it.

Starr had dug a moat around himself. He was isolating himself, Black realized. As much as Black sometimes felt alone, the empath was probably much more lonely than he. Black took a step forward and dug his toes into the sand, pushing the granules to fill up the narrow ditch.

*Do you feel alone?* he wanted to ask. What he said was, "I don't need a big brother, Starr."

Cool hands caught his bare foot. Black held his breath as Starr gently stroked the arch of his foot. "This has nothing to do with brotherly love, sweetheart, and you know it."

"Different"

(John/Finn)

John compares his relationships.

Finn propped a small, slender leg on the table. He wore heels that wrapped around his ankles. John watched him unwind the leather like untying a package. John almost said, "Don't do that there. That's where we eat pancakes."

But this wasn't the kitchen of his family.

That house had been sold, its canvas wiped clean for a new family to paint upon.

This kitchen was the kitchen of John the bachelor. It was a place of limbo. Nothing in this apartment was enough to hold him down. That was the point.

But Finn's eyes glowed with purpose. It was clear that he wanted to give John a memory of this kitchen. Finn wanted to brand this one room. He wanted to make it something John might regret leaving behind.

John didn't know if that would happen, but he knew he wouldn't forget this any time soon.

"Everybody Loves Ice Cream"

(Calyx/Black, Caled/Hadrian, Caled/Calyx/Hadrian)

Still stuck in the future, Caled and Hadrian let Calyx take them to an ice cream shop with predictable results. Predictable in Calyx's opinion, anyway.

He gingerly accepted the cone and glanced at Caled, who watched him expectantly. Hadrian tentatively extended his tongue and slipped it through the cold cream. The taste of strawberries, sugar and rich cream exploded across his tastebuds. His eyes widened in delight.

"Caled, it's wonderful!" He eagerly swiped his tongue around the scoop of ice cream, gathering up the melting pink cream before it could drip down the cone. "Ooh!"

He heard Calyx chuckle and looked up to find Caled staring at him with an unexpected hunger on his face.

"What's wrong?" Hadrian asked, startled.

"Lick it again," Caled ordered in a low voice.

Bemused, Hadrian swirled his tongue around the ice cream, unable to help closing his eyes in pleasure at the sweet coolness. He opened his eyes again when he heard Caled release a quiet groan.

Caled stepped up close to him and said in deep growl, "When we get home, I want your lips on me, Hades. I want to feel that tongue."
